Wordpress and its problems

By Boris, September 23, 2009 5:37 am

Wordpress, as you probably know, is a very popular blog software. It is highly flexible and you can do almost everything you want, even create “real” websites – if you know HOW.

Problem is, that “normal” people like me -although working with computers since university- actually should either learn HTML or be dependent on external software engineers. Although Wordpress offers a huge help section I got lost with all this computer lingo and still you need to have at least a good idea about HTML otherwise you can’t convert the hints and tips.
OK, I just naively stumbled into Wordpress and soon I had to realize that this was way over my head.
Now I needed some good advice and -lucky me- found it with a group of WP nuts. WP Engineer. was created by 3 WordPress Junkies, who love WordPress. One of them, Frank Bültge lives in Germany. He is (so other people say) a brilliant Webworker who works with priority in WordPress, developing Plugins, themes and solutions. He is member of WordPress Germany and writes about news in WordPress Deutschland blog and is author of a book for WordPress.

So, if you have a problem or get stuck like I did, don’t hesitate to check out their US website

OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard now available

By Victoria, September 16, 2009 7:21 am

The snow leopard is one of natures most beautiful but very reclusive animals and was declared endangered in 1972.

Not endangered at all is Apple’s latest OSX 10.6, also called Snow Leopard. Just the opposite. It sincerely endangers the market share of Windows, the latest Windows 7 just being launched. And already Microsoft announced that many applications will not run properly with Windows 7.

Apple’s maxim always was Better, Faster, Easier, using next-generation technology. Mac OS X is renowned for its simplicity, its reliability, and its ease of use.
Apple says “…. since 2001, the breakthrough technologies and rock-solid UNIX foundation of Mac OS X have made it not only the world’s most advanced operating system but also extremely secure, compatible, and easy to use. Snow Leopard continues this innovation by incorporating new technologies that offer immediate improvements while also smartly setting it up for the future…”

Apple’s OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard is now available from Amazon for an incredibly low price at Amazon.

Software

By Victoria, September 14, 2009 5:19 am

Any computer without an operating system and software is just a collection of hardware components without any useful scope except maybe being a dust trap.
To make a computer work it firstly needs a special type of software, an operating system (commonly called OS). An operating system acts as an interface between hardware and user as well as host for all computing applications. It handles the details of the software operation, the coordination of activities, and the appropriation of resources like memory. Every electronic device, be it a digital watch, a washing machine or a supercomputer, needs some sort of OS. Obviously household devices have their OS and software built in and are ready for use. Here we want to talk about computers. After installing the OS the computer is now ready to accept your software.

Since the beginning in the 1940’s software has developed with increasing speed. The computer which brought us to the moon had a capability dwarfed by a $ 20 pocket calculator these days.

Software also became bigger and more complex. The grandma of all personal computers, the Commodore C64, used to run programs on its 64 KB memory (later 128 KB) with in average size of about 38 KB. Nevertheless you could run word processing, spread sheets and even graphic programs. Running BASIC as OS the programmers were able to write gaming programs with color and sound although it this was quite a difficult task.
Not for long IBM and its clones have captured the market. With their DOS OS they were able to work faster, easier and more user friendly, despite the fact that most users had to have a thick book with DOS commands next to their computers. Not for long and those C64’s were obsolete.

The rest of the story you know. Hand in hand both, the computer’s processor speed became faster, the memory bigger and software gigantic.
